Make a Comeback
My husband recently suffered a medical crisis. It was not as severe as many but still scary. Like before, he improved when we feared he would not. My sister said, “The comeback kid is doing his thing.”
To make a comeback means to return to a former position.
We use it to describe:
- Sports teams who appear defeated but win.
- Musicians who lose and then regain popularity.
- Candidates who win elections against everyone’s expectations.
Their refusal to throw in the towel leads to success.
According to The Free Dictionary, stage a comeback means the same.
Usually, when people make a comeback, they overcome a difficulty.
Challenges may be:
- Physical
- Spiritual
- Emotional
- Mental
We love to cheer for those who struggle.
We want them to win in:
- Real life
- Movies
- Books
Jesus is the greatest example of making a comeback.
He was crucified and buried. Yet He arose on the third day. When we follow Jesus, we also have the promise of victory over death.
In heaven, we will experience no:
- Suffering
- Sorrow
- Pain
All will be perfect forever in the presence of our Savior.
“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:3 NIV).
Thanks to Gail Gosser and Beckham Wilson for the idea.
