Snug as a Bug in a Rug
As I small child, I loved to snuggle with my parents.
They made me feel secure – snug as a bug in a rug.
They would wrap me in a blanket or quilt and hold me. We would:
- Talk
- Read
- Sing or listen to music
I thought everything was okay as long as my parents held me close.
Like a bug in a warm rug, I felt:
- Cozy
- Comfortable
- Content
As an adult, I know much in our world is not okay.
However, some things still make me feel snug as a bug in a rug.
- A warm house on a cold winter night
- Hugs from family and friends
- Long walks in the middle of nowhere
- A good book by a favorite author
One day everything will be okay for those who believe in Jesus.
Jesus loves me (and you) more than the best parents. He offers everyone:
- Forgiveness of sin
- A personal relationship
- A home in heaven
- A fresh start
Jesus guides through life’s good and bad times. His peace, joy, hope, and love fill my heart. That makes me more secure than any bug in a rug.
Will you accept His offer?
“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord” (Psalm 112:7 NIV).

Diana: My mother used to say those words to me. I loved hearing them. I liked the poetry of them. Thank you for bringing the memory to my mind.
You’re welcome Cecelia. I love memories like those. They’re like wonderful mental snapshots that make us smile.
Such a sweet picture to help tell the wonderful story
Thanks, Ginny. I love it too. He’s my great-nephew. His dad took the picture.
I’m often reminded of that snugly feeling this time of year. At Grandma & Grandpa’s on a cold night, a fire going in the fireplace, covers swallowing me, the toasty warmth, and waking to the smell of bacon. So many years ago, yet still snugly to remember.
Those are good memories, aren’t they, Beckham? Certain sights, smells, or other senses trigger them in an instant.
My grandmother Mubby, bringing a hot cup of spiced tea and tucking a blanket around me made me feel loved, secure and “snug as a bug”.
Such great memories always bring a sense of peace and security, don’t they, Marina? Thank you for sharing that special memory.
