Wise as an Owl
I had never seen a snowy owl until this one showed up near our house. Northern Canada is home to snowy owls, not central Kentucky. Yet, this one decided to stop for a visit.
As a result, people traveled here from several states. They wanted to see and take pictures of our unusual guest.
All owls, including our lovely visitor, remind us to be wise as an owl.
Wise as an owl means very wise.
We use our brains. That includes:
- Learning new information
- Using that information well (We can be sharp as a tack yet not wise.)
- Sharing our information, so others can also grow wise as an owl
Wise as an owl does not mean having all the answers.
No one but God knows everything. Therefore, a wise person:
- Listens more than talks
- Learns from other people
- Never stops learning
- Looks at the other side of the coin
Remember a word to the wise can come from unusual places:
- People we see every day
- Out of the mouths of babes
- Animals far from home
Watch. Listen. Always remain ready to learn.
“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning” (Proverbs 9:9 NIV).

Spectacular picture. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
Thank you for your encouragement and support, Joy. Moments like that don’t happen often.
Diana, This is DIVINE timing. I attended a Spanish service in Lexington at Iglesia El Shaddai with one of my daughters on Sunday afternoon. The pastor preached from Daniel 1:4 and he spoke of wisdom. Get it, he said. In Spanish, the word wise is sabio. This is the second message on wisdom this week. Thank you so much for your faithful word wielding!
Wow, Kristy. God’s timing overwhelms me. Thank you. Prayers for that pastor and his ministry.
Double wow….good one Diana and I’m amazed at the owl picture…he was posed just right for you. I’d love to get a picture of one. Maybe when I retire Karen and I can go walking on Owl Road…lol
Thanks so much, Debbie. The owl sat there for hours, undisturbed by all the people and cameras in front of it. I doubt we have a return visit. However, if we do, I’ll let you know. Who could have imagined how appropriately that road was named?
Diana
Blessings to you for sharing this beautiful photo!
I think maybe I would have named him angel 😇
I like that name, Kay! I was so thankful for the opportunity to see and photograph this beautiful creature.
